Monday June 4

Today's Class Topics:
  • Non-verbal communication
  • Verbal communication
  • Review on copier machines and fax machines
  • What information we have learned from Sec. 7 in Handbook
New Things I Learned Today:
  1. You should always make a copy of any receipts that you have from any major things you buy in the office especially if it is on thermal paper. Thermal paper tends to fade. That way you have a back up copy for your employer if it's needed. You'll be a step ahead and that will look great on your behalf.
  2. How many people  rate public speaking as their number one fear. All you need to do in order to be successful presenter is be prepared, confident, and relaxed.
  3. One mistake many people make on a resume is attempting to explain why they left one job and moved to another . This would not be the place to put such topics.
  4. It's important to do your best to learn as much as you can about the business you are seeking. The more knowledge you have about the company the better it looks on you.
Office Management Tip of the Day: Be constantly busy, keep your skills in shape by having at least one project to be involved, two or projects would be even better because you are given the opportunity to change speed and and to focus on something else for variety. To deal with simultaneously with different project assures that you will always have something on which to work. Also,it keeps your mind alert and renews your prospects.

Time Management Tip of the Day: Say no to nonessential tasks, consider your goals and schedule before agreeing to take on additional work.

Tuesday May 29

Today's Class Topics:
  • What kind of Copiers you should have in the office
  • What kind of Multi-line phones you should have in the office
New Things I Learned Today:
  1. You can go to the website Epinions.com to get the reviews on any kind of equipment that can be used in the office setting, copiers, computers, printers, and you can look at stuff that is not necessarily dealing with office equipment.
  2. You should have at least 10-12 phone-lines in your business. Depends on how large or small your business is.
  3. Before your lease or warranty goes out you on your equipment you should always do your researching ahead of time, and know what your options are in case you decide to buy or lease a new piece of equipment.Always best to know your product and features you may need so a sales person doesn't try to gimmick you.
  4. If your copier happens to break you should always have a backup plan so your not behind or out any business. Always have a backup plan for everything you n ever know what may happen it will look good on you in a professional manner to always be prepared.
Office Management Tip of the Day: Co-operate with your colleagues. Colleagues will expect you to finish the job on time, so make sure to avoid any delay. You would expect the same from them. To avoid any delays, give more time to the project so as to be able to handle unexpected complications, misunderstanding or missed deadlines. If the date of the presentation is on the 25th of the month, be sure to plan to finish everything by the 23rd.

Time Management Tip of the Day: Scheduling is best if you do it regularly, such as the beginning of the each week or month. The first step is to determine the times each day when you will work on your tasks. This depends on the nature of your job and your personal situation.

Tuesday May 22

Today's Class Topics:
  • Read and got feedback on our Job interest research paper
  • Read and went over section 2 in Handbook
  • Discussed Final project
New Things I Learned Today:
  1. How to troubleshoot things on your computer. Like when your computer freezes up, or you have unwanted pop-ups.
  2. Some keyboard shortcuts that are used in Apple Macintosh. Almost like regular shortcuts I have learned in Word class, such as Command + O, to open a new document.
  3. Also learned about Data Security. How to determine what is a crime. The kind of threats come from the in, and outside. Outside you get your hackers, Viruses, and Freaking. As in the inside you get the employees that like to misuse a computer or data files as a form of vengeance or for a financial gain. These would be very harmful since all of the above have valuable information.
  4. I didn't know until now how Businesses have Special Telephone Services. Such as call waiting, Select call waiting, Call forwarding, Select call forwarding, Three way conferencing, Caller ID, Busy number redial, Selective call acceptance, and Voice message. I knew of some of these, but some I was not aware of that are really a need to know thing when you open your own office one day.
Office Management Tip of the Day: Organize your desktop; manage the copies of your files, your computer folders and e-mail folders so that you can easily find what you want. Minimize the time you spend when searching for information. As Benjamin Franklin once said " A place for everything, everything in place".

Tuesday May 15

Today's Class Topics:
  • Talked about what interested the class in what we read in our first section of our Administration Handbook.
New Things I learned Today:
  1. To always look for the positive ways instead of looking towards the negative.
  2. To always be prepared for the unexpected.
  3. What Employers want from you as an Employee? Always to be punctual, dependable, to always have the ability to learn new things, loyalty, and confidentiality.
  4. How to plan your Employers travel. I found some tips to keep in mind. What is the purpose of the trip, what are the departure and return times and dates, what is the point-by-point itinerary, and will he/she be traveling alone, or will staff or family members be going as well. Them tips will help tremendously. I could also use a travel agent to help with plans if I get stuck on making any decisions.
Office Management Tip of The Day:
  • Always have a great professional appearance well groomed, nice and neat attire.
  • Also to have a smile on your face no matter the situation while working in management or any type of position you are working in. The better the mood you are in the better the chances you have in making someone else's day turn around.
Time Management Tip of the Day:
  • Create an action plan. List all tasks that need to be accomplished to achieve the goal and put them in order they need to be completed.

Tuesday May 8

Today's Class Topics:
  • What our Final project is gonna be based on.
  • Efaxing
Four Things I have learned this week in OEP.
  1. What and how e-faxing works in the workplace. How you can travel and still receive a fax. It keeps you more organized I think to have a busy workplace but to still have your privacy in faxing documents
  2. How to set up and manage blogs for this class.
  3. How is is a great idea to have a emergency back up plan. What to do when lights go out while in the middle of a meeting have flashlights or some kind of power source to help when power goes out.
  4. I also gathered a lot of information on how we are suppose to do our final projects. How we need to use economical items for your office. It's lovely how we do things in this class seems to be fun and very interesting.
Office Management Tip of the Day: Allocate your time correctly, include an estimated time frame for each action and the date by which each task must be completed. If the order that each task must be completed does  not matter it may be possible to complete something during an unexpected free time. For example, you can look for information on the internet while you wait in your office to start a meeting.
